Pounds, rupees, euros, dollars, baht, dinar, peso, camels... OK not camels, BUT with 180 currencies in the world it can be hard to memorise multiple up to date exchange rates at any given point.

Even when I have done plenty of research into my destination, there's been times I have rolled into an airport shop or restaurant half asleep during a connecting flight and not known if I am spending pennies or my entire life savings on a cup of tea (how British of me).

Another situation I find myself in, is dealing in multiple currencies. I will be referring to pounds, one of my travel friends may be referring to euros or dollars and the hostel we are trying to book is in ringgit.

App to the rescue!

Luckily there are some very useful currency conversion apps that will swoop in and save the day! Personally I use 'Currency XE', but I have listed some other top picks.

This app works like a dream for me, it allows you to keep track of live rates of every currency, and works offline. (Remember to download the conversion rate of every country you'll be visiting whilst connected to Wifi or 4G.) You can just click the currency you want to convert from a list and it shows all the others below.

Other Apps

I have no personal experience using these apps, but some other options include:
