As part of these 'quick tips' I am including some apps I find incredibly useful, and this is definitely in the top 3! Whether you are a vegan or vegetarian traveler or just like finding nice places to eat, this one is for you!

Traveling as a vegan...
One of the things I often get asked when traveling is "is it not reeeallyy hard being vegan?"
The answer is no it's not really hard, but thats not to say it doesn't have its challenges.
Cultural differences...
In some countries, vegan and vegetarianism may be unusual and may not be fully understood. Trying to explain specific dietary requirements or make amendments to existing dishes with a language barrier can be difficult. The other thing to consider is, that by asking for these changes you may be unintentionally be causing offence to somebody else's cooking!
The other thing to consider is that you may sometimes feel like you are missing out on certain cultural experiences and exchanges. There have been a few situations where I have been invited into a families home for dinner for instance, then have to try and work out what is vegan, or politely refuse the food being offered to you.
But its not all doom and gloom...
Aside from basic provisions such as fruit, vegetables and rice being available almost anywhere, veganism as a whole is on the rise. So many more places have a greater understanding of different dietary requirements and the industry is booming.
Some places that are huges hubs for vegan food are Berlin, Hamburg and Glasgow.
Finding the good stuff...
One of the things I love the most in the world is food, and Happy Cow is one of my most favoured applications when hunting it out in new places.

Happy Cow ’Map View’
The search...
You simply open the app and either search your current location, or a future destination for super yummy eats. You can read reviews and find information about menus, hours, and locations. The average cost is also marked with dollar signs for those working to a budget.

Happy Cow is available as an app or through a browser: https://www.happycow.net/
