A few weeks back I was on the wonderful Island of Koh Lanta in Thailand. Ko Lanta is an island district in Krabi Province on Thailand’s Andaman coast. It’s known for its coral-fringed beaches, mangroves, limestone outcrops and rainforests.
Sadly as with many beaches across the globe, discarded plastic and trash destroys the naturally beautiful landscape and damages the eco system.
Enter 'Trash Hero'
Trash Hero is an incredible volunteer-led movement that drives change within communities around the world, motivating and and supporting them to clean and prevent plastic waste. As of 31 December 2019, they have mobilised 314,421 volunteers to remove 1,542,107 of litter in 15 countries worldwide.

Each week a new location is announced and volunteers head to the beach armed with black sacks, gloves and tongs. I got involved in one of these weekly cleanups and in a just a few hours we cleaned up a total 65 bags of recycling and waste from the stunning Bamboo Bay.

Hot hot hot...
Needless to say it was hot and sweaty work, but incredibly rewarding. It is also a lovely place to meet other like-minded, eco-conscious travellers.
The team was led by a group of dedicated hardworking volunteers who arrange each of the weekly cleanups and work on spreading awareness locally.
